JAXHOG: On the Road Again in 2007
On club rides, JaxHOG has ridden nearly every road in Northeast and Florida and Southeast Georgia. Sometimes JaxHOG trips even take us to Alabama (Andersonville) and North Carolina (Tail of the Dragon). With the ABCs of Touring, club rides have travelled from A to Z.
But individually, members of JaxHOG have ridden their V-Twins to every state in the Union--and beyond. Where have you been? What have you seen? What adventures have you had? This web page lets the world know just how far and wide our wanderlust and our Harley-Davidsons carry us.

Members (Ride):
Mike Baker (Road King),
Bill Hartley (Ultra-Classic),
John Colgrove (Ultra-Classic),
Steve Coleman (Ultra-Classic),
Susan Coleman (Fatboy)
Non-member Dave Alexander (not on a Harley, but that is okay!)
Date: March 14, 2008
Days: 1 Day
Total Miles: 1,034 (Iron Butt!)
States: FL, GA, SC
Best Experience: The group camaraderie
Worst Experience: Constant threat of rain.
This Ride was Special Because:
"It was an IronButt! We tested our endurance and we met the challenge!" — Susan Coleman
"...that is one more item crossed off the “bucket list.” — Bill Hartley
"We took on a challenge that few try. Many want to but some aspect of the ride holds them back. Maybe it’s the distance or the need to ride a long time at night or simply fear of the unknown. To accomplish something like this stretches you physically and emotionally. To complete the ride we had to call on all the skills we have developed while riding a motorcycle and proved that safety and operator training really does pay off. " — Mike Baker
"This ride was special because I got to see Susan ride the distance and do it on her own. It was a great confidence builder for her… and me." —Steve Coleman
“I had the pleasure of working with five great people for a memorable ride, the “Iron butt Saddle-sore”. We devised a terrific idea, planned it out and executed it. The ride was a big, but manageable challenge. Great plans and fun times are best enjoyed with great friends. This ride is what team work and camaraderie is all about!"—John Colgrove

Ride: 2007 Road Glide
Dates: August 2007
Days: 4 Days
Total Miles: 1,000
States: FL, GA, TN, NC, SC (Smoky Mountains)
Best Experience: Just riding again with my best friend after 15 years
Worst Experience:The heat of Knoxville in late August. 105 degrees.
This Ride was Special Because: "This was a special ride for me because my friend John and I had planned on riding the HOG Adirondack ride. His plans got changed at the last minute and we couldn't go. But we decided to go to Knoxville for the National HOG rally. John has a cabin in Gatlinburg so we stayed there and made that our base of operations. We rode The Dragon, Great Smoky Mountains, part of the Blue Ridge Parkway and whatever roads struck our fancy. It was fantastic!." |

Ride: 2006 Ultra Classic
Dates: Sept 20 - 30, 2007
Days: 11 Days
Total Miles: 3,350
States: FL, GA, SC, NC, VA, PA, NJ, NY, ME, NH, VT, DE, MD, DC
Foreign Country: Canada (Montreal)
Best Experience: The romantic, yet adventurous night on the town in Montreal with Peggy
Worst Experience: 40 minutes waiting to cross into Canada w/85+temperatures
(coming
back took less than 60 seconds)
This Ride was Special Because: "I picked up Peg in Albany where we spent time with her family before heading to Canada. In Montreal we enjoyed a horse drawn carriage ride through Old Montreal followed by a romantic dinner. The next day we visited Montreal’s H-D dealership. You can imagine our disappointment when we found it closed. Outside the dealership with us was a gentleman that was trying to get the attention of his supervisor in an office above the dealership. We were able to assist him and learned that he was the dealership owner. He invited us into his new facility and as a sign of his appreciation he gave us a souvenir. We left Montreal for northern Vermont where we witnessed the changing of the seasons. We then went on to visit Cape Elizabeth, Maine where we had lunch at a park overlooking the rocky coastline w/Lighthouses in the background. We also visited North Conway and Laconia where I was able to satisfy a 30-year dream to tour covered bridges while riding a Harley. I also visited the H-D Assembly plant in York for a fascinating 90 minute tour. By the way, the tour has been expanded to include the Softail assembly line. A definite 5 star ride!." |

Ride: 2007 Street Glide
Dates: December 2006
Days: 1 Day
Total Miles: 320
States: FL, GA,
Best Experience: Awesome day trip and hardly anyone else on the road
This Ride was Special Because: "My friend John Lyles (Road King Classic) and I decided to play hooky from work one day and take a ride from my house in Macclenny. We rode through the Osceola Forest and the Okefenokee Swamp to Homerville and over to Waycross making a loop around Laura S. Walker Lake and stopping for a picture in front of the Swamp Park sign. We came down US1 to 121S and back through the swamp to Macclenny. Hope others might try the route. It was a big square through South Georgia and North Florida with lots of places for food and stopping along the way." |

and a ride along the highest paved through road in the U.S. (U.S. 34 in Colorado). This year's trip was also the first chance for Marilyn to join me on a long ride."
